At the University of Iceland, Martina Rašticová met Rector Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir and Pro-Rector for Education Ragna Benedikta Garðarsdóttir. Their discussions focused on strategic international partnerships, exchanging experiences from the Aurora and HEROES European university alliances, and opportunities for doctoral and academic staff mobility. A Memorandum of Understanding was proposed as a suitable framework for developing this cooperation.
The visit also built on the long-standing collaboration between Martina Rašticová and her research team and Professor of Sociology Guðbjörg Linda Rafnsdóttir. The programme included a presentation of current research findings and a meeting with Friðrika Þóra Harðardóttir, Director of the International Division. These established academic links provide a strong foundation for expanding joint research and preparing future international projects, including proposals under Horizon Europe.
A further meeting took place at the Agricultural University of Iceland in Hvanneyri. Representatives of the two universities agreed to prepare an Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement for student mobility and discussed exchanges of doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers and academic staff. A draft Memorandum of Understanding covering broader research and institutional cooperation was also prepared. The programme was complemented by participation in the Economics and Society conference at Reykjavík University, featuring Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin and Harvard economist Lawrence F. Katz.
