Mendel Week

MENDELU

Mendel Week brings students and staff together to kick off the new semester. Here is what you can look forward to during the first week:

September 23 | MENDELU Party

This traditional semester-opening party offers a wonderful opportunity for staff and students to connect informally. Between 11:00 and 16:00, the courtyard between Buildings A and X will turn into a vibrant party zone.

September 24 | Rector’s Awards

The Rector’s Awards of Mendel University in Brno are presented for significant and exceptional achievements or contributions by students and university staff in the fields of science, education, sports, and the arts, as well as for contributions to the development of civil society. Nominations for the awards are submitted by the dean or director of a university institute and the chair of the Academic Senate, based on nominations from its individual members. The rector decides on the awarding of the prizes.

September 25 | Researchers’ Night

Researchers’ Night, an event that brings hundreds of scientific facilities – usually off-limits to the general public – to life in a single evening. Visitors wander through laboratories, lecture halls, and explosive experiments, delving deeply into current topics. Children, adults, seniors – anyone passionate about science is welcome. Meet our scientists, and they’ll show you how to love science.

This year’s 21st edition will focus on the theme of Communication.

September 26 | Run MENDELU

We invite you to the 9th annual MENDELU Run, which will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2025, at the MENDELU Botanical Garden and Arboretum. The race is open to children, students, employees, and family members. In addition to children’s races and the main 4-km race for students and employees, there will also be a 4×1-km relay race. Family members of employees (spouses, partners, and children aged 15 and older) are also welcome to participate in this race.
