The Mendel Festival is a multi-genre week of science, music, and entertainment that celebrates the legacy of Gregor Johann Mendel, the discoverer of the fundamental principles of heredity. It combines cutting-edge science presented in an accessible way, a family-friendly atmosphere, and musical experiences for all generations. For the eleventh time, we will commemorate the legacy of Gregor Johann Mendel, the founder of genetics, who worked right here in Brno. This year, the festival will once again bring together science, faith, and entertainment—and it’s completely free.
The Mendel Festival 2026 will take place at the Bohunice University Campus in Brno, with the main festival day on July 18, 2026. Admission to the festival is free; however, special events with limited capacity may have their own reservation system or admission fee.
Throughout the week, you can look forward to popular science lectures, science shows, workshops, guided tours, and a children’s program. The main festival day features open-air concerts, a family program, discussions, a food zone, and other events in the atmosphere of a summer city festival.
