MENDELU is strengthening its role in the innovation ecosystem by joining Brnoregion Microscopy

8. 6. 2026
Mendel University in Brno has recently become a member of the Brnoregion Microscopy platform, which connects research organizations and laboratories that use advanced microscopic and analytical methods. This move significantly strengthens the university’s involvement in Brno’s innovation ecosystem and opens up new opportunities for scientific collaboration and applied research.

The impetus to join came from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Faculty of AgriSciences. The department has long had high-quality research facilities and is actively involved in international collaboration. This is one reason why the need for closer ties to shared regional infrastructure and expert resources naturally arose here. “I see joining Brnoregion Microscopy as a natural step that allows us to share experiences, technologies, and contacts across institutions. This collaboration also enables the systematic development of shared infrastructure and contributes to the more effective application of research results in practice,” says Eliška Birgusová, ambassador for Mendel University in Brno. However, inter-faculty collaboration is also a key element of the entire initiative. The Faculty of Horticulture and the Faculty of Business and Economics at MENDELU are also participating in the initiative.

Cooperation within Brnoregion Microscopy is based on an active partnership between the university and the regional innovation ecosystem. Mendel University supports the platform’s activities and development through membership fees, while the South Moravian Innovation Center (JIC), as its coordinator, provides services related to the implementation of activities defined in the action plan for the 2026–2027 period. “Thanks to the collaboration of multiple faculties and the support of the university administration, a solution has been created that has a long-term impact on the development of research and collaboration with the applied sector. For students and researchers, this means new opportunities to work with state-of-the-art technologies and to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration,” adds Lucie Synková, technology transfer manager at the Faculty of AgriSciences at MENDELU.

The Brnoregion Microscopy platform is a network of institutions sharing specialized facilities, technologies, and know-how in the field of advanced microscopy and analytical methods. Through its membership in the platform, Mendel University gains better access to infrastructure, expert services, and opportunities to participate in joint projects.
