Cooperation with the Multidisciplinary University of Jerusalem in Israel

The Department of Applied and Landscape Ecology has established an interdisciplinary cooperation with the Multidisciplinary University of Jerusalem in Israel. They designed a joint course was initiated and subsequently piloted during the winter semester of 2025/2026 at both institutions.

„This course is about learning to see the landscape as a living system, and design as a language that allows students to engage with it, care for it, and design systems that protect life. There is undoubtedly a power multiplier here between two worlds, two countries, and two academic centers that want to work together for a better world,“ said Yoram Pony from the Jerusalem Multidisciplinary College, Israel.

Based on these presentations, JMC students formed groups, selected a topic, and designed a smart solution while maintaining continuous communication with the MENDELU students throughout the process. „MENDELU students selected and developed, from a theoretical perspective, a specific topic related to an ecological or environmental issue (e.g. radiation as an environmental problem, lack of urban green spaces, microplastic pollution; converting the threat posed by water hyacinth into sustainable solutions through biorefinery approaches and exploring sustainable energy for the future). Each student prepared a presentation and shared it with JMC students,“ described Milada Šťastná from the Department of Applied and Landscape Ecology at the Faculty of AgriSciences.
