“The aim of the event is to familiarize participants, at least in part, with the activities of Mendel University in Brno in the field of space research and space applications, to establish contacts and cooperation, to better understand the possibilities of our university, and to strengthen the potential for the preparation and implementation of projects in the field of research, applied research, and the integration of space issues into teaching. We also want to present opportunities for inter-university cooperation and cooperation with research institutions and companies,” explained event organizer Libor Lenža.
The program will also include a presentation of selected current space projects at MENDELU. These include, for example, research into mycobacteria, which may be a new indicator microorganism in facilities for long-term human stays outside Earth, the development and testing of technologies for space agriculture, and the use of satellite surveying in precision agriculture. One of the speakers will also present current technological solutions for automated plant cultivation in the space environment.
The day-long program will conclude with a panel discussion on opportunities for involvement and cooperation in the space sector. “The discussion will touch on the main challenges and obstacles to developing the university’s potential in the field of space research, how university students can get involved in space projects, and what is needed for successful and effective cooperation in the space sector. The panelists will also share their practical experiences from preparing space research projects,” said Lenža, who will moderate the discussion.
